Wisconsin S Secret Waterfall Breakwater Falls Has Finally Been Named

Wisconsin is full of surprises – and Breakwater Falls is one of them. The towering waterfall is actually one of the state’s largest, yet most residents have no idea that it even exists. However, it looks like the waterfall is finally getting its due, beginning with a name. Take a look:

A spectacular sight, Breakwater Falls is a 60-foot-tall, three-tiered waterfall in Florence County.

It’s actually one of eight waterfalls in Florence County on the Pine and Popple Wild Rivers. And at 60 feet, it’s the sixth-largest waterfall in Wisconsin.

Until recently, the towering waterfall didn’t even have a name and was omitted from maps, making it one of Wisconsin’s best-kept secrets.

However, the secret is now out of the bag – and it’s thanks in part to John Roberts, a local Wild Rivers expert, who recently released a video on the waterfall (which you’ll find below).

Breakwater Falls is a great visit year-round since its flow changes with the seasons and water levels.

Not only beautiful, it’s loaded with history, too. The bedrock it flows over is two billion years old!

Ready to seek out these hidden falls? Breakwater Falls is located 1.75 miles west of County Road N, where Power Dam Road dead-ends at the We Energies Powerhouse. Visitors can park near the turnaround and follow the signs up the dam’s access road, which leads to the top of the falls. Remember, the trails leading to the waterfall are primitive and somewhat rugged, so good footwear is a must.
