North Dakota has only a handful of zoos. There are two in the Red River Valley – Red River Zoo in Fargo and the Chahinkapa Zoo in Wahpeton – and one in the state’s capital city, the Dakota Zoo in Bismarck. You can also experience wild animals in the west when you explore places like the badlands, where the bison really do roam and wild horse herds thrive. One of the best places to see rare animals in ways you never have before is the Roosevelt Park Zoo in the Magic City.
The Roosevelt Park Zoo is a fantastic place for a family day trip in North Dakota. This is the oldest zoo in the state, originally opening in 1921.

Today, the zoo is thriving with over 150 animals and plenty of fun ways to learn about rare species from faraway lands as well as native North Dakota species like bison.

Tickets are only $9.50 for adults and $6.00 for children, making it a great way to have a day out with the family without breaking the bank.

In the zoo, you’ll find animals like giraffes, zebras, lions, lemurs, leopards, and so much more. It’s a delight for anyone to see up close and personal.

One of the coolest parts of the zoo is the newer tiger habitats that have a feature you won’t find in many other zoos: catwalks. These raised paths allow the tigers to walk above the zoo’s paths whenever they feel like.

The catwalks are connected to the tigers’ large habitat and they often enjoy lying on the catwalks as they would in trees in the wild. You get to walk right underneath them!

Along with the animals, Roosevelt Park Zoo has other activities like a train ride, discovery barns, concessions, and annual events to take part in.

There’s no reason not to give the Roosevelt Park Zoo a visit. They strive to help educate people, give them the opportunity to have fun, and promote animal conservation all at the same time.
