This lake and its campground are pretty remote, and not as popular as other spots around the state, so if you’re looking for a place to get away from it all, this might be a good choice.
Jamie Shaffer/Google To reach Watson Lake from Prineville, take Highway 26 east to County Road 123. Proceed for eight miles, then take the junction to Forest Service Road 22. Drive for another seven miles to the campground.
The rustic campground is managed by the Forest Service. It offers 27 individual campsites, 2 accessible sites, and a group site.

Some sites are large enough to accommodate some RVs, though you won’t find hookups here.

On the far side of the lake, those wishing for more privacy can hike in to the tent sites. Each site has a picnic table and fire ring with grill, and vault toilets are available.

Make sure to bring your fishing pole! There’s a small boat ramp to launch your non-motorized boat so you can cruise around the lake to see where the fish are biting.

During your visit, make sure to explore the area on one of the trails. The Watson Lake Trail makes a loop right around the lake.
