Arizona is full of roads with twists and turns galore, but this one just might take the cake. US-93, a highway with a southern terminus in Wickenburg, is 200 miles of pure white-knuckle driving. It’s a lot safer than it used to be, but the thrills of a curve-filled road are still undeniably there.

US-93, a major north-south highway, runs from our very own Wickenburg all the way up into Canada. In total, the route spans nearly 1,400 miles.

Just under 200 miles of the road runs through Arizona. It ends at the Nevada state line on the Mike O’Callaghan–Pat Tillman Memorial Bridge.

After about 30 miles, the road weaves through a lush Joshua tree forest. It then heads north, eventually merging with I-40 en route to Kingman.

Once in Kingman, US 93 splits and heads north to the Hoover Dam. The iconic ghost town of Chloride is located off this highway, which means you’ll pass through the eerily cheerful remains of Santa Land.

Until recently, this roadway was among the most treacherous in the country. Between 2010 and 2016, 90 people were killed in vehicular accidents on the stretch from Phoenix to Las Vegas.

Slow medical response times along the road could have contributed to the severity of the crashes. Luckily, the Federal Highway Administration says years of improvements have made it a much safer thoroughfare to travel.

Danger aside, we can all appreciate the beauty of the unadulterated Arizona landscape that surrounds the highway. All the twists and turns make it even more scenic!
