Some restaurants have menus that are so large and varied, it’s nearly impossible to decide what to order. Paul’s Pel’meni isn’t one of those restaurants. In fact, you’ll only find one item on the menu – and that item is pelmeni or Russian dumplings. Take a look:

No trip to Madison would be complete without a visit to Paul’s Pel’meni!

The longtime Madison staple has re-located a couple of times; however, it’s been at its current location on Gilman Street since 2017.

Paul Schwoerer, the creative culinary genius behind Paul’s Pel’meni, has been in the business of dumplings for years. He opened his first dumpling outpost on State Street back in 2003.

And while the location has changed a couple of times, the same can’t be said for the menu. It’s always included one item and one item only…. pelmeni!

Like we mentioned earlier, pelmeni are Russian dumplings.

Dumplings may be the only thing on the menu, but you will have to make a few decisions.

First, you’ll have to decide if you want your dumplings stuffed with ground beef, potato, or a mixture of the two

The second decision is whether to get your dumplings plain or with “the works,” which is a tasty blend of melted butter, sweet chili sauce, minced cilantro, and some curry powder.

We recommend “the works.” However, even the “plain” dumplings aren’t exactly plain since all dumplings are served with a side of sour cream for dipping.

Lastly, you’ll have to select which portion size to get – a full order, which is about 30, or a half order, which includes 20 or so. The full order is definitely the way to go and is perfect for sharing.

Quaint and cozy, the interior of Paul’s features several tables, so you can dig in to your dumplings immediately, which is a good thing because you’ll probably want to scarf them down as soon as you get a whiff of them!
