These days there’s nothing we crave more than some fresh Maine air. Whether the air is warm or chilly, getting outside has always been a great way to clear the mind and start fresh. Especially this year! We love local hikes, but we’re not always looking to break a sweat which is why we appreciate the flat, scenic trails that can be found throughout the state. This simple-to-follow route is one of our favorites.
Scarborough Beach is one of the best in southern Maine if you’re looking for white sand, lots of space, and perfect views.

And if you love it in the summer, you’ll adore it in the winter. It’s just as fun to visit, although you probably won’t want to take a dip when there’s snow on the ground.

What you will want to do is explore the two-mile out-and-back trail located within the state park!

The route begins in the parking area and makes its way to the beach.

Along the way, you’ll pass over Massacre Pond which provides water views of a different sort.

Remember that the majority of this route is on sand, so you’ll want to be prepared for the extra work that comes with that. But the good news is that the elevation gain is under 10 feet and the views will keep you happy along the way.

Scarborough Beach State Park is beautiful to visit year-round. It’s typically open from dawn to dusk. In the summer you’ll find the parking lots quite busy, so arrive early unless you’re okay with walking across the street to access the beach from the off-site lot.
