If you grew up in Montana, you’ve probably heard about a semi-ghost town in Valley County near Glasgow called St. Marie. Once the site of the Glasgow Air Force Base, the town has been practically abandoned since the 1970s. Still, it has managed to make headlines and be the subject of plenty of investigations and exploration since.
St. Marie was once the home of thousands of military personnel and their families.
Ray vs. the World / YouTube The Glasgow Air Force Base operated from 1957 to 1968 and again from 1971 through 1976.
Since that time, the town’s population has dwindled to almost zero, although it did make national news when an anti-government group attempted to take it over.
Ray vs. the World / YouTube And while those days are thankfully over, most will agree that this quiet town is a little eerie.
The Air Force base has been abandoned for decades, and the barracks are certainly showing signs of decay.
Ray vs. the World / YouTube That being said, there remarkably doesn’t appear to be any signs of vandalism here.
Recently, a YouTuber known as Ray vs. the World took a few cameras into the abandoned barracks and captured some great footage.
Ray vs. the World / YouTube As they are not open to the public, it’s interesting to see what actually lies inside.
St. Marie may be a bit creepy now, but at one time, it was an extremely important part of Montana.
Ray vs. the World / YouTube The post office and the town hall are still in operation, but there are no schools in town and the majority of local businesses have closed.
Have you ever been to St. Marie? It’s an interesting place, that’s for sure. Check out this virtual tour of the town’s old abandoned Air Force Base and learn more about its history (and recent troubles) on this virtual tour.
