Oklahoma has some of the most incredible natural attractions of any nearby state. And, when times are hard, getting outside to enjoy them can be a (literal) breath of fresh air. There are a lot of ways to do this, from simply strolling through our own neighborhoods to visiting the more popular state park, but these days we’ve been trying to find new options. This trail is longer than most that we feature here, but it’s so worth it if you’re looking for a fun way to challenge yourself.
The 6-mile Bison Trail is located within the Wichita Mountains National Wildlife Refuge in Indiahoma.

The trail, which is a perfect loop making it simple to follow, is a bit rugged. But, it offers some of the most lovely views in the state.

Get to the start of the trail by taking Highway 49 directly to NW Indiahoma Road. Once here, you’ll see signs for the Bison Trail parking lot where you’ll find the trailhead.

The landscape is flat, which helps make the route a bit easier despite its longer length.

Along the trail, you’ll pass (and sometimes follow) the Cache Creek which is an offshoot of the Red River.
