In the past, we’ve covered some truly superlative bridges in Minnesota. The Land of 10,000 Lakes is home to charming, old-fashioned covered bridges as well as brand-new spans that cross high over the water. Today, we want to add another interesting bridge to the mix. It isn’t the oldest or highest, but it certainly has a beauty all its own. Hidden off the road in the Chengwatana State Forest, this little-known footbridge crosses the Snake River of Pine County. If you’re craving peace and quiet in a natural setting, this bridge is well worth the walk to get there.

The footbridge in the Chengwatana State Forest — often called the Million Dollar Bridge by locals — is easy to find if you know where to look. Head down Pine County Highway 8 towards the St. Croix River. Soon, you will come to a small, unadorned parking area.

The bridge is a popular destination for people riding ATVs or snowmobiles. But if you’re willing and able to walk, it’s a great hike through the woods.

The path is not well-developed. In rainy weather, it is often muddy. In the winter, you may find large snowdrifts. But if you’re willing to step carefully, you’ll encounter a beautiful forest in all seasons.

A short walk will bring you right to the bridge. As it comes into view through the opening in the trees, you’ll see why so many enjoy visiting this place.

The tall metal arches rise high over the bridge’s walkway. Surrounded by trees, it is a beautiful sight.

As you walk onto the bridge, you’ll have excellent views of the Snake River from above. You may spot fishers or boaters making their way down the river.
