New Hampshire isn’t typically considered a scary place to be. With all the surrounding beauty, fun things to do, and kind people we mostly think about our state with good feelings and pride. But that doesn’t mean we’re not without our moments. There’s one story that involves unsolved murders that doesn’t leave us feeling great. But if you love true crime you’ll want to learn more!

The Connecticut River Valley is a beautiful part of New Hampshire. Throughout the year, the region offers things to do and lots of things to see. But, back in the 1980s the region had a much scarier story to tell. The area was the backdrop for a serial killer who took the lives of seven people. That we know of.

The story begins when three women went missing from the town of Claremont. Each body was later found with stab wounds in the woods of Kelleyville. Around the same time another woman was found stabbed to death in her home in a nearby town just over the border in Vermont.

When it was clear that all four murders were similar, experts looked back at previous cold cases. In 1978 and 1981 other murders were discovered that followed a similar pattern. It was believed that the murderer was likely the same person.

The clues in these cases are few and far between, but there are some. In one case, a woman who disappeared from Claremont used a payphone to call her sister on her way home from her hospital shift late at night. During the call she told her sister that a strange car had driven past her multiple times. She was never seen again.

In 1987 another woman went missing as she made her way home after a ski trip. Her car was far about 10 miles from her home, but she was nowhere to be found. The only thing left was blood on the steering wheel. That is, until her body was found many months later.

Today the cases are still unsolved. Despite some theories and leads nothing credible has led to information that could solve the crime. While the region has moved on, the people involved and those living nearby during the murders will never forget. The Connecticut River Valley Killer could still be on the loose.
