If you’re into stories of the paranormal, you’ll definitely want to read this. There are quite a few places in this state that are said to be haunted, but this one truly stands out. Not only is it one of the most notorious yet unique hauntings in North Dakota, but it is also right on the state capitol grounds. Keep reading to discover this ghost story!
On North Dakota’s state capitol grounds is the Liberty Memorial Building, which houses the state library.

The structure was originally built in 1924 and is the oldest building on the capitol grounds.

The library was said to be haunted by the “Stack Monster,” which was apparently a ghost that meddled with things in spooky ways.
Kent Landerholm/Flickr According to some accounts, the “Stack Monster” could flicker lights, sometimes appear out of the corner of people’s eyes, and even set dogs on edge. Doors apparently also opened and closed on their own, supposedly by the same paranormal entity. Some people working there said they even heard mysterious footsteps when no one else was there late at night.
Though the “Stack Monster” may have haunted this place at one point, apparently it has since moved on.
