Most people are under the impression that there’s only one “Old Faithful Geyser”, but that couldn’t be further from the truth. It turns out Northern California is home to its very own Old Faithful, and yes, that is it’s official name. California’s Old Faithful can be found in the town of Calistoga, and visiting it makes for a memorable roadside stop. Be sure to swing by this natural wonder soon and witness this beauty for yourself!
Located in Napa Valley, California’s Old Faithful is definitely an extraordinary sight. It may not be as big and powerful as Yellowstone’s Old Faithful, but it’s still a natural wonder you don’t want to miss.

Napa Valley is considered an incredibly serene destination today, but it wasn’t always that way. Long ago, this region of the valley was a massive volcano, and it erupted 4.3 million years ago. The explosion had a huge effect on creating the scenery that you see today.

The volcanic explosion was so big that it completely flattened and buried a section of redwood trees in volcanic ash, creating the nearby Petrified Forest. Additionally, volcanic remains compose some of the valley’s most stunning geothermal features, including hot springs and the geyser known as California’s Old Faithful.

Today, the geyser is a popular Napa Valley attraction. Known to erupt every 15 to 30 minutes, the gushing geyser makes for an unforgettable scene. Open to the public every day, seeing it costs $15 for adults, $13 for seniors and students, $9 for children, and $7 for Calistoga residents.

Declared one of only three “faithful” geysers in the world, California’s Old Faithful is especially noted for its regularity. It nearly never misses an eruption. If an eruption is delayed or diminished, it’s a reliable indicator that an earthquake is on the way.

Seeing the geyser erupt is certainly a unique experience! While waiting for the eruption to take place, visitors can peruse the grounds, enjoy the relaxing atmosphere, and visit the petting zoo that’s home to llamas, sheep, and mountain goats.

Don’t forget to stop by the on-site Geology Museum to learn even more about California’s Old Faithful and how geysers work in general. As one of the most photographed spots in Napa Valley, a trip to this incredible wonder is simply a must.
