Eyes to the skies this evening, Missouri! We may just be lucky enough to catch a glimpse of the magical Northern Lights for a brief window of time this evening. However, you’ll only have a really brief period – between 9 p.m. and midnight – to see the lights, and that’s only if conditions don’t change. Here’s what you need to know.
The Northern Lights, a spectacular and colorful show in the nighttime sky, are visible in the Northern Hemisphere, typically in those places closest to the Arctic Circle. They’re frequently seen in Alaska and Canada, for example.

However, thanks to a massive solar storm that was first detected earlier this week, we may just get the opportunity to see a green glow on the horizon this evening. Because Missouri is so far south, we’ll likely just get a taste of the spectacular light show.

Missouri Storm Chasers warns that we may not be able to see the Northern Lights in the sky. If we’re lucky and conditions remain conducive, we might be able to see a green glow on the horizon.

Your best bet for seeing the Northern Lights is to head outdoors between 9 p.m. today, December 10, 2020 and midnight on December 11, 2020. Find a dark space outside, and look toward the horizon. Do you see a green glow?

A potential sighting of the Northern Lights isn’t the only celestial event to which we can look forward. In just a few weeks, we’ll also have the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see the Christmas Star. (Look for an upcoming article with all of the details.)
