When summer rolls around there’s nothing like taking a cool, refreshing dip in a local body of water. For some of us, that’s the beach. For others it’s one of the many lakes and rivers that exist throughout the state. But, one of our favorite ways to enjoy the great summer outdoors in New Hampshire is by jumping into an old swimming hole. Most of these have been around for so long that we’ve heard stories of our parents jumping in. For that reason, visiting this one is one part fun and one part appreciating our heritage!

The trail to the swimming hole at Garwin Falls is quite easy to navigate and can be found slightly south of where Issac Fry Highway joins Putnam Road.

The hike to the upper falls takes about 5 minutes and you’ll know you’re nearly there when you hear the unmistakable sound of falling water.

Once you’ve seen the upper falls, head back down to the lower falls which are larger and closer to the swimming hole. To do this, you’ll pass through a meadow and veer left.

These falls are about 50 feet tall and feature other smaller falls cascading from the main waterfall.

The beautiful and lush pool is about 4 feet deep so you won’t be doing any jackknife dives to get in.

But swimming here is fun and refreshing.

The fact that it’s absolutely hidden under trees makes it feel like your own special discover.
