If you’ve ever wanted to take a journey through the wonderful world of The Wizard of Oz, now’s your chance. The Land of Oz in North Carolina is re-opening for private tours, and it’s every bit as magical and mysterious as its fictional namesake implies.
The theme park, located in Beech Mountain, has a curious history. It first opened in 1970, but the death of the owner and a fire that burned down Emerald City contributed to its closure in 1980. The park stood abandoned for over a decade until it was re-opened in 1991 for just one day. In the following years, the park has opened for a brief period of time. This year, however, the park will be open for private tours from June 17th until August 2nd on each day of the week except for Mondays and Tuesdays.
