Nearly every Montanan has had the experience of deciding to stop for a bite in a small town and discovering a charming little dive bar or diner with decor older than their grandparents and the most delicious burgers. And while that is always a delightful adventure, what’s even more surprising is discovering a high-end cocktail lounge and trendy eatery inside an old building in a tiny town of 934.

The Jawbone is a speakeasy, cocktail lounge, and high-end tapas restaurant in White Sulphur Springs, but it looks straight out of the heart of a big city. And it’s fantastic.

White Sulphur Springs is located in Meagher County, about 98 miles south of Great Falls.

Jim DeLung / Google You’ll find The Jawbone’s building on East Main Street, but make sure to follow the signs for the entrance. It isn’t called a speakeasy for nothing.

This sophisticated spot is owned by twin sisters Cassie and Amber Coburn, who bought the bar before they were legal to drink themselves.

Cassie C / TripAdvisor Both Cassie and Amber just graduated from college, but they’ve been working on the idea for The Jawbone since they were 19. Their mother, who owns Bar 47 across the street, suggested they apply for a liquor license. The restaurant and lounge officially opened just in time for the Red Ants Pants Festival in 2018.

The bar specializes in craft beer and one-of-a-kind cocktails, and the drink menu rotates regularly.

The Jawbone / Facebook The sisters wanted to create an experience that goes way beyond a standard night out in White Sulphur Springs, and they’ve succeeded – this is clearly a hot date night spot and a perfect place for a ladies’ night out.

The Jawbone is primarily a tapas place, so you can expect to find lots of small shareable plates on the menu.

Cassie C / TripAdvisor Ayrlahn Johnson is the newest head chef, and he’s quite creative.

The menu always features plenty of tasty meat and potato dishes, but it’s far from a standard steakhouse.

Jenniver Frazer / Google You can expect your perfectly presented meal to look almost too pretty to eat (almost).

Two sisters opening such an impressive establishment while finishing college is quite an achievement.

The Jawbone / Facebook Sometimes the cuisine can be quite a bit different than what the locals are used to, but Cassie and Amber love it when guests try something out of their comfort zone.

The Jawbone has officially re-opened to the public, so stop by and see this elegant and inviting space.

Jim DeLung / Google They’re open from Thursday through Sunday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. or 10 p.m. for dinner, drinks, and celebrating special occasions.
