The building was constructed in 1872 and served as a place of entertainment for a host of famous outlaws: Annie Oakley, Buffalo Bill Cody, Billy the Kid, Jesse James, and more. During these rowdier days, at least 26 murders took place here.

It stands to reason that a place so historically tragic would have at least a few lingering spirits. Several accounts report all kinds of paranormal activity, including portraits falling off of the walls, doors opening mysteriously, and other objects moving on their own accord.

In fact, there’s one gust room so haunted that it’s kept locked. Room 18 was the site of a terrible murder, and it’s believed that the ghost of Thomas James Wright still haunts the room today.

Mr. Wright had won a poker game and, after returning to the second floor with his winnings, was shot in the back just outside of his room. Today, the room is closed to the public entirely.
