If you’re looking for an adventure that combines all the best of West Virginia into one thrilling package, then it’s time you took a trip to the Fern Creek end of the New River Gorge’s famous Endless Wall.

The Endless Wall stretches for miles on one face of the New River Gorge, and it’s one of the many amazing attractions hidden within the Mountain State.

One one end of the wall, you’ll find the beautiful Beauty Mountain, which is a worthy spot for another post. And on the other end, you can enjoy all that the Fern Creek area has to offer: hiking, views, rafting, and rock climbing.

Park in the Fern Creek parking lot along Lansing-Edmond Road (County Route 82) outside of Lansing, West Virginia and take the 2-mile hike along the top of the wall.

There are several side trails that lead to beautiful overlooks of the gorge, including the best viewpoint at Diamond Point Overlook. Once you reach Diamond Point, you can either turn around and head back the way you came or continue on to form a loop hike that is closed by a short 0.5-mile walk along County Rte 82 back to your car.

Along the Endless Wall Trail, you’ll also find signs directing you to climbing areas along the hike, including free climbing up ladders attached to the cliffs or good places to rappel or enjoy some more traditional rope climbing opportunities on the cliffs.

Alternatively, instead of hiking or climbing (or maybe in addition to those activities!), you can choose to raft the river far below and enjoy looking up at the endless wall!

The Fern Creek parking lot for this popular trail fills up quickly, so make sure to arrive early if you want a parking spot, especially on weekends.

Sarah Sipos/Alltrails If the Fern Creek lot is full, you can drive up the road a bit to the Nuttall parking lot and hike the trail as a loop from the Nuttall Lot along the Endless Wall to the Fern Creek lot and then back to Nuttall along the side of the road.

To learn more about the area and the hike, be sure to check reviews from other hikers on Tripadvisor or Alltrails. Another great view of the New River Gorge and Bridge that you might also be interesting in checking out can be found along the Long Point Trail.
