Do you remember a few months ago when the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) announced that Colorado should expect a warm and dry winter? While many were looking forward to the prospect of a somewhat pleasant winter, the world-famous Farmers’ Almanac is bursting our collective bubble by announcing a cold and snowy winter for the Centennial State:
Dubbed the “Winter of the Great Divide,” the Farmers’ Almanac is predicting that winter 2020-2021 will be “Cold and snowy in the north. Drought in the west. And everything crazy in between! Which side are you on?”

Which side are we (as Coloradans) on? According to the Farmers’ Almanac’s Extended Forecast for Winter 2020-2021, we — along with the Great Lakes and Midwest, and Northern and Central Plains — are on the side of freezing cold and lots of snow, because 2020.

As per the Almanac, “The Great Lakes region will get its fair share of snow but expect above-normal snowfall if you live in the western Dakotas, northern portions of Colorado and Utah, as well as Wyoming, Montana, Idaho, and central and eastern sections of Washington and Oregon.”
Farmers’ Almanac
Billed as being “America’s #1 almanac and oldest continually published periodical,” the Farmers’ Almanac has a record of 80 pecent accurate forecasts since 1792, which — sadly — includes their Centennial state predictions.

How does the Almanac make their predictions? Contrary to popular belief, it isn’t through advanced technology or satellite, but rather from a specific and reliable set of rules that were developed by the Almanac’s first editor in 1818 that include such factors as sunspot activity, the position of the planets, and the tidal action of the Moon.
