Tucked away between Central City and Black Hawk, the aptly named Central City Masonic Cemetery may seem innocent enough at first glance but is home to several downright disturbing legends.

Dubbed the “Richest Square Mile on Earth,” Central City is a former mining town turned gambling hot spot that has welcomed many colorful characters over the years, some of whom were even said to have passed away but can still be seen on occasion.

What do we mean by people who have passed away but can still be seen? As you may have guessed, these alleged spirits and ghosts can be seen and heard roaming around the Central City Masonic Cemetery, making it the creepiest cemetery in the state.

When you visit the Masonic Cemetery, make sure to keep your eyes and ears peeled for strange sounds and orb-like sightings, which have left visitors and paranormal investigators alike both baffled and scared.

In addition to these unexplainable sights and sounds, the Central City graveyard is also home to the famous “Lady in Black,” a mysterious figure who appears April 5th and November 1st to lay flowers on the grave of the John Edward Cameron.

As if Central City wasn’t plagued enough by the old cemetery, other spots around town are also said to house spirits and other paranormal activity, including the 1863 house-turned-museum Lace House and Gilpin Hotel & Casino.
