But many people don’t realize that a few years ago, the Butterfly Encounter was added to the array of permanent exhibits. The completely immersive tropical experience is like nothing else at the Science Center.

The Butterfly Encounter is a living exhibit housing 40-50 free-flying species. That’s right, enter the greenhouse and the butterflies are fluttering through the air right next to you.

You’ll see unique plants and colorful butterflies as they live and grow. Observe as butterflies come out from their chrysalis and then be released.

The butterfly habitat is a warm and balmy 80 degrees with a high humidity creating a tropical paradise for these beautiful creatures.

The Butterfly Encounter is open Tuesday - Friday from 1 p.m. - 4 p.m. and weekends and holidays from 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. The last entry to this tropical oasis is at 3:30 p.m.
