Some scenic routes in Indiana are so idyllic, you want to shout about them from the rooftops. At McCloud Nature Park, you can shout from the top of an antique bridge instead. Take a hike through this scenic area, and find your way over the beautiful, old truss bridge. On the other side, you’ll discover several stunning overlooks you just can’t overlook.

McCloud Nature Park has hiking trails spanning almost 7 miles through the woods near Big Walnut Creek, some of which are paved and some of which are relatively difficult.

Your goal is to reach the aptly named “Overlook Trail.” This requires a step trek through Coyote Ridge, but the view from the top is worth breaking a sweat.

This trail will bring you to a restored iron truss bridge that is more than a century old.

The bridge crosses over Big Walnut Creek, giving guests a lovely view of the water that lazily laps below. Most days, this isn’t a bridge over troubled water. It will, however, deliver you to some breathtaking views.

While the bridge itself is a sight to behold and looks particularly splendid surrounded by seasonal colors, Overlook Trail has much more to offer beyond the bridge.

The real sights to behold lay on the opposite shore. Here, the trail is studded with views of the creek, miles of dense trees, and other Indiana wildlife. If you’re lucky and patient, birders have even been known to spot bald eagles from these riveting ridges.

With so much to see, a trip to McCloud Nature Park is never a bridge too far. So pile the family in the car, and head up to North Salem. Take your time with this hike through the Hoosier State, too. You won’t want your experience with these enchanting vistas to be abridged.
