The Medora Covered Bridge is not just the longest covered bridge in Indiana; it’s said that it is the longest one in the entire country! Measuring a fantastic 434 feet in length, it’s truly a sight to behold.

Once upon a time, the Medora Covered Bridge carried on it US Route 50, until the highway was eventually moved about four miles to the east, where it is today.

The bridge was built for approximately $18,142 in 1875, which would be about $429,188 today.

The bridge was added to the National Register of Historic Places back in 2007. And we can definitely see why!

It underwent a reconstruction in 2011, however, it still stands with all its original trusses. The reconstruction came more than 130 years after its original construction in 1875.

Nowadays, the bridge is closed to vehicle traffic, but you can still wander across on foot. it’s the perfect spot to take a stroll and enjoy the fresh air. Make sure to bring a camera though, because the bridge is visually intriguing and definitely fun to take pictures of! You’ll want to come back here again and again.
