The Bay View Trail at Mason Neck State Park wanders along the marshes of Belmont Bay and showcases a beautiful variety of blooms. Mason Neck State Park is located in northern Virginia, along the Mason Neck peninsula. The exact address is 7301 High Point Rd, Lorton, VA 22079.

The area is beloved for its freshwater wetlands, Atlantic tides, hardwood forests, and sunset viewing.

Because of this spectacular terrain, the Bay View Trail is one of the most popular in the area. And during warmer months, you’ll enjoy the added benefit of gorgeous wildflowers.

The 1-mile circuit, complete with sign posts and trail guides, is doable for hikers of all ages. The trail begins with a leisurely stroll through the woods.

Beginning as early as March, wildflowers begin to bloom in a beautiful sequence that lasts through summertime. In early spring, Eastern Redbud blooms are abundant.

As you begin the wooded segment of the hike, look alongside the trail and you’ll find tiny purple blooms.

Continue along the trail as it winds along the wooden fence, from which point you’ll gain a gorgeous overlook of Belmont Bay.

The trail transitions into a boardwalk that will meander along the Bay and marshlands.

Even near the marsh, colorful blooms are abundant. At this point in the hike, you’ll also want to keep on the lookout for water birds and other wildlife.
