Louisiana’s only National Forest, the Kisatchie National Forest, featured over 600,000 acres of primitive, rugged landscape that showcases a whole new side of Louisiana. Sprawling across seven parishes across central and northern Louisiana, there are countless trails that could take a lifetime to hike them all, but there’s one, in particular, that should move to the top of your bucket list, as it’s one of the most beautiful hiking trails in Louisiana.

When it comes to outdoor adventure, it’s hard to beat the Kisatchie National Forest.

From the three-mile Loop Trails to the epic, 23-mile Azalea Trail, the forest is full of primitive trails that showcase a side of Louisiana not often seen.

The trail clocks in at roughly 14 miles, and you’ll want to come prepared. This isn’t your leisurely boardwalk stroll.

This epic trail will have you crossing streams, bayous, and throughout the rugged hills. While much of the trail is shaded, there are some parts that you may want a hat or some sunglasses for. As always, bring bug spray.
