Chasing waterfalls is fun all year long in South Carolina. Even in the colder months, you can bundle up and hit most of the trails in the state to discover amazing adventures that await. When you take the Asbury Trail near Cleveland, South Carolina, you’ll encounter three wonderful waterfalls – including a rare double waterfall where two creeks merge at precisely the point with a rock wall creates the perfect waterfall drop.
Of note: this trail is on private property belonging to a camp and retreat center. You’ll need to call ahead to get permission to use the trail. During certain times of the year when camp is in session, permission my be denied.
The Asbury Trail is 5.5 miles out and back and contains an overall elevation change of 823 feet.

Along the course of the hike, you’ll encounter a total of three waterfalls. Seen here, Cascade Falls is the first.
YouTube/watefallrich Although not a very tall waterfall, it is wide and quite impressive. In any season, it’s a beautiful sight to behold.
Next up is a single fall that flows with gusto over a rock ledge and into a ravine below.

Underneath the ledge is a cave containing the remnants of an old moonshine still. Hence the name of this waterfall: Moonshine Falls.

Continuing on down the trail for another two-tenths of a mile will lead you to some very steep terrain dropping down to Confusion Falls.

Perhaps the prettiest of the three falls, Confusion Falls is a convergence of two creeks at just the right moment.

The pair move in unison to drop into a beautiful aqua pool of water at the base. In warmer months, definitely plan to dip your toes in here.
