New Jersey offers a wide variety of destinations for canoeing and kayaking. We’ve got rivers, reservoirs, lakes, bays, inlets, and more! While we can’t enjoy them all in person, we can discover at least one delightful destination via a virtual tour.

The Cohansey River is a 30.6-mile-long river that runs through South Jersey and empties into the Delaware Bay.

The river runs through Salem and Cumberland Counties and interconnects with Sunset Lake. At low tide, it’s just under 2 feet deep in some areas.

The river is home to a host of wildlife and eventually opens up into a tidal estuary with wetlands and salt marshes.

Perhaps most interestingly, the river played a major role in the Greenwich Tea Party. Similar to the Boston Tea Party, tea was brought up the Cohansey River (specifically to avoid making port in Philadelphia), stored to be shipped out, and then burned by protesters of the tea tax.
