Here in Minnesota, waterfall chasers tend to head up north to visit the state’s most popular falls. And it’s no wonder when you consider the beauty of places such as Gooseberry Falls or the High Falls of the Pigeon River. But there are some gorgeous waterfalls that aren’t anywhere near the North Shore, including the one we’d like to introduce today. If you love exploring Minnesota’s waterfalls, start planning your trip to the stunning double waterfall at Minneopa Falls. Read on below to learn more about this gorgeous spot.
Minneopa State Park is a beautiful park near Mankato, Minnesota. It’s about 80 miles south of Minneapolis. This area is a great place to visit on a day trip thanks to the many things there are to do both at the park and beyond.

The park covers 4,643 acres, much of it prairie. There is a herd of bison that roams the park. A driving route through the park makes it easy to catch a glimpse. Along the way, you’ll also spot waving prairie grasses and wildflowers.

The prairie section is beautiful, but Minneopa is most known for its waterfall. Minneopa Falls is actually a double waterfall of Minneopa Creek.

Both drops are absolutely gorgeous. The upper falls is a smaller fall. The water drops around 10 feet over a rocky ledge. Then it flows a short distance…

…and rushes over a 39-foot cliff. A viewing platform above the gorge offers an incredible view.

You can also hike down to the base of the falls! The path is steep and rutted in some areas, but it’s well worth the up-close view of this stunning waterfall.

There’s also a bridge right over the waterfall which offers excellent views of both the upper and lower falls. This is one of the most picturesque places in any Minnesota state park!

The best part of all is that this double waterfall is stunning all year round. Whether it’s surrounded by lush, green foliage or frozen into a sheet of ice, it is absolutely gorgeous.
