Eldorado Canyon is home to the famous Techatticup Mine. In operation from 1861 to 1942, the remote canyon was a hotbed of violence during its day, including almost daily gunfights and killings. It was the true Wild West and, in fact, it still looks pretty rugged these days - although, with a lot less killings!

Walking through the canyon, you can’t help but feel like an extra in a Western film. Actually, the canyon’s become a popular filming location for both movies and television shows due to its authentic appearance.

In addition to providing a backdrop for movies and photoshoots, the canyon represents an important part of Nevada’s history. The Techatticup Mine was part of one of the earliest and richest mining districts in Nevada, and you can see for yourself what it was like to work inside of it.

Tours of the famous gold mine are given at 9:00 a.m., 12:00 p.m., and 2:00 p.m. Reservations are required, so be sure call in advance to secure your spot. All tours must have at least four or more adults. It costs $15 for adults and $10 for kids.

The tour is a 1/4-mile walking tour. Led by a knowledgeable guide, you’ll be shown the quartz veins where both gold and silver could be found. Face masks are mandatory for all mine tours, and visitors are asked to bring their own masks. It’s advised to bring a jacket during the colder months since the mine is known to be cool and breezy.
