For those who have always wanted to eat at a restaurant where two larger-than-life humanoid hotdogs, dressed as a strongman and a ballerina, respectively, stare down at patrons from the rooftop, Superdawg is the spot to check out (and really, who hasn’t dreamt of that?). They’ve been slingin’ dogs in Chicago since 1948, and remain a local favorite to this day.

Superdawg began as a summertime operation, but because their secret hot dog recipe was so popular, they quickly opened for year-round business.

If hot dogs aren’t your thing, they also serve the Whoopskidawg (Polish sausage), the Superchic (grilled chicken sandwich), the Superburger (self-explanatory), and Superchickenmidgees (chicken nuggets), among other options.

The process for ordering is simple: once a car has pulled into a spot under the neon canopy, a carhop takes their order over the speaker and brings the food directly to the car.

The restaurant is still run by the family that started the business back in 1948, and they have even opened a second location in Wheeling, Illinois.
