The small town of Lava Hot Springs in Bannock County is most well-known for its world-famous hot mineral pools. You’ll find the Sunken Gardens located just off Main Street and right above the world-famous Lava Hot Springs Mineral Pools. It’s a small garden, but the one-of-a-kind atmosphere is more than worth taking a few moments to check out.

The garden’s natural setting is nothing short of breathtaking. Filled with both native and imported plants and flowers, it seems like there is beauty to be found everywhere you turn. The diversity of plants also means the garden remains gorgeous all year long.

The garden is open to visitors free-of-charge every day from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. It makes for a great place to forget about your worries for a bit and simply enjoy the natural environment.

One of the first things you’ll notice about the Sunken Gardens are the rugged rock walls that can be found throughout the area. They resemble something like lava rock, but they are actually remnants of algae reefs that were formed by the Portneuf River long ago.
