Washington is home to some extraordinary vacation rentals, including some that are quite unique. But we have yet to see anything that compares to the Rainier Schoolhouse, an old elementary school in a tiny fishing village that has been converted into a one-of-a-kind place to stay. This place is fantastic for groups — but before you book, make sure everyone in your crew is ok with ghosts. Rumor has it that the schoolhouse has a friendly resident spirit.
Rainier Schoolhouse is located in the tiny town of Mineral, a former mining community in Lewis County near Mount Rainier.
Airbnb Mineral Elementary School operated until the early 2000s when the declining student population forced it to close.
While there’s not much to the town of Mineral, is does happen to be surrounded by stunning scenery.
Airbnb That being said, when you rent this unique space, you’ll probably want to spend most of your time in “school.”
The original structure was built between 1910 and 1920.
Airbnb Unfortunately, it was destroyed by a fire and had to be rebuilt in 1947.
After the school’s closure, two local residents purchased the property and turned it into an event center.
Airbnb These days, it serves as a private rental and a quirky artists’ space.
Rainier School can comfortably accommodate 10 overnight guests, and it has six classrooms that have been converted into bedrooms.
Airbnb There are also two bathrooms and a full kitchen, so you’ll have everything you need for a wonderful stay.
Of course, seeing a ghost here is highly unlikely — but if you do, you won’t be the first person.
Airbnb Legend has it that the spirit of a little girl remains here. She isn’t unpleasant, but she’s feisty and likes to hide people’s keys and startle them with strange noises.
You can stay in this haunted old schoolhouse for between $375 and $750 per night, depending on when you want to go.
Airbnb And as of now, it’s available on Halloween.
Who would you want to stay with you in this schoolhouse?
