Jim Ruddy opened the museum in 1983 after 30 years of gathering authentic general store merchandise from all over the country. Every item at Ruddy’s General Store, including the fixtures, is part of his original collection.

Every detail of this museum reflects the authentic look and feel of the general stores that existed back in the 1930s and 1940s. And at 95 cents for a tour, even the price reflects a simpler time.

Speaking of prices, things sure cost a lot less back then. Can you imagine paying ten cents per pound for coffee beans?

And look at these old candy boxes. A Tootsie Roll for a penny! Or a Mint Pattie for five cents. Wow!

Oh, the things you could buy at the General Store.

This rare collection of Americana reflects actual items that lined the shelves. You’ll find some basic ingredients one would have purchased to stock a kitchen.

And an entire wall of canned goods that were available back in the ’30s and ’40s. Yes, these are actual cans that have never been opened.

You could even buy every type of lotion and potion imaginable. And each and every item on the shelf is in its original packaging.

And just in case you needed some supplies for grooming, those were available to buy back then, too.

The General Store was also the place to go for all of your pharmacy needs…
