Tucked away in northeastern Tennessee awaits a treasure trove of natural wonders: Roan Mountain State Park. Comprised of over 2,000 acres, this preserve of mountain views and hardwood forests is one you’ll want to explore any time of the year.

Roan Mountain State Park was officially incorporated in 1959. For decades it has been a landmark for travelers near and far looking to enjoy one of the most beautiful areas in southern Appalachia.

One of the best parts of visiting Roan Mountain State Park is the abundance of recreational opportunities. Whether your ideal adventure is pitching a tent, fishing for rainbow trout, hiking to mountain vistas, or enjoying a picnic in the woods, you’ll find no shortage of ways to engage with the landscape.

Hiking is among the most popular activities here. The park features 12 miles of hiking trails, ranging in difficulty from easy to challenging.

Even if you visit in the wintertime, you can look forward to all kinds of adventures. Try your hand a cross-country skiing, and then spend the night in a rented cabin complete with a wood-burning stove, electric heat, and full bath.
