If you enjoy architecture from another era then Guthrie needs to be on your list of places to visit soon. As Reader’s Digest suggested in their recent article, Guthrie is loaded with historical buildings many of which are more than a century old and most are still in use today (and more gorgeous than ever). Guthrie was Oklahoma’s first Capital City, and as such, has much history to explore. As you stroll along Main Street you will be transported back in time and be surrounded on all sides by beautiful architecture.
The State Capitol Building below was established in 1889, well before Oklahoma even gained statehood in 1907. Guthrie served as the state capital until a special election in 1910 when it was moved to Oklahoma City in a contentious court battle.

The Victor Building designed by Joseph Foucart, a renowned Territorial architect, is considered to be the height of his design achievement. The unique and gorgeous detail is unmistakable and a must-see.

If you are in the mood for steak or great food while walking around, Guthrie then we suggest stopping by Hasting’s Steak House, located in this beautiful historic building. Make sure to call ahead as seating is limited.

Guthrie also claims to be the “Bed and Breakfast Capital of Oklahoma.” The Dominion House (shown here) is certainly the most over-the-top B&B. This Victorian Mansion is a must-see if you are anywhere near Guthrie.

Another gorgeous building to visit is The Logan County Courthouse Building that was built in 1907. For over a century, state business has taken place here and it’s quite a sight to see.
