It began in the 1980s when former restaurant owner, Marty Doyle, gave away books to customers as a way to give new homes to his old book collection. When Art and Karen Murdock bought the restaurant in 1993, they continued the tradition. Many of the current books are donated from local libraries and residents from around Connecticut and other New England states.
