Big cities may get all the attention, but there’s something about visiting one of Nevada’s small towns that never disappoints. There’s definitely a lot of smaller communities to choose from in the Silver State, but the town of Beatty is especially worthy of your attention. It’s often referred to as “The Gateway to Death Valley”, but we think you’ll quickly discover there’s a lot more to love about it. You may just come to the conclusion that it’s one of the best small towns in the state!

The quaint town of Beatty is located along the Amargosa River in Nye County, Nevada. Boasting a population of just 1,010 residents, this town is small, but it definitely has a lot to offer!

In fact, Beatty is an especially fantastic destination for adventurers. Located in close proximity to notable spots like Death Valley National Park, the Bare Mountain Range, and the Amargosa Valley, there’s never a shortage of outstanding sights to see in the area.

Originally founded in 1904, Beatty was once part of the Bullfrog Mining District. One a thriving mining town, the community is a quiet place to live today and it’s home to tons of great businesses and attractions.

When exploring the town, places like Death Valley Nut & Candy Company and the Sourdough Saloon are considered a must for hungry travelers. The Gateway to Death Valley truly has everything the desert visitor needs, including motels, RV sites, and other unique lodging and dining spots.

No visit to Beatty is complete without stopping by the ghost town of Rhyolite, located just about four miles outside of town. Rhyolite was a mining town that sprang up about the same time Beatty did, but obviously had a drastically different outcome. The town’s long-abandoned structures are definitely worth exploring.

While you’re in the area, be sure to see the one and only Goldwell Open Air Museum. An outdoor sculpture park, it’s likely you’ve seen photos of these quirky desert sculptures! However, nothing compares to seeing them with your own eyes.
