Pittsburgh, in fact, ranks eighth in the top 10 mid-sized cities for a quickie getaway, trailing St. Louis, Missouri; Tampa, Florida; and Atlanta, Georgia. Criteria included affordability, how much bang you get for your buck, and drivability.

Even if you don’t have much time in Pittsburgh, or even just a day, you’ll find a ton to pack into that day. If you can’t get away this year, you might find a trip downtown is the perfect staycation.

No matter how long you’re staying, you’ll definitely want to start your visit with sensational views of the Pittsburgh skyline. Climb up Mount Washington on either the Duquesne Incline or the Monongahela Incline for the best views in the city.

When you return to the bottom of the mountain, stop by Station Square or head over to the South Side, where you’ll find a variety of shops, restaurants, and bars.

Or, just cross the Smithfield Street Bridge right back to downtown. What would a visit to downtown Pittsburgh be without a stop at Point State Park? It’s especially perfect during the warmer months, when the fountain runs.

If you’re a fan of eclectic shops, head over to the Strip District, where you’ll also want to stop by The Heinz History Center.
