You have heard of the Fountain of Youth and other legends surrounding therapeutic and seemingly magical waters, but did you know that South Dakota is home to one of its own? Whether or not you knew, you may want to make a pilgrimage to Kidney Springs, which some South Dakotans describe as being not only delicious but healing:

Located in Hot Springs is Kidney Springs Park and its warm and iconic water.

Nestled along the north side of the Fall River Freedom Trail, the Kidney Springs maintain a temperature of 83 degrees year-round and feature all-natural minerals that you cannot get in most other water.

What is so great about getting this mineral-fed water? According to legend, Kidney Springs has the ability to cure kidney illnesses, giving it its unique and distinct name.

Aside from the water itself, what brings people to Kidney Springs? It is thanks, in part, to the surrounding trails and scenery, as well as the easy-to-recognize gazebo that encompasses the water.

Designed in 1927 and refurbished in 2014, the Kidney Springs gazebo is both eye-catching and one-of-a-kind, as it is topped with a sculpture called “The Gift," which many consider the spring itself to be.

Kidney Springs Park is open year-round and can be accessed by taking US 19 West to US 385 North/Jennings Avenue and turning left, then turning right at the first cross street onto North River Street.
