Among the top places that are mentioned are little gems like Patriot, Pine Village, and Shamrock Lakes; however, there’s one little town that always makes the list and seems just a cut above the rest. Rich with history, Merom, Indiana, is well-deserving of its common “most beautiful” title.
Merom was founded in 1817 in Sullivan County, Indiana.
Sullivan County, Indiana It rests right on the Indiana/Illinois border and seems to have the best of both worlds. With a population of just around 228, it truly earns its “small town” designation.
Don’t let its size fool you, though - this place is a pint-sized beauty.

There aren’t a whole lot of buildings here; it’s mostly land - absolutely gorgeous land.

It is said that Merom was a stop on the Underground Railroad, where ex-slaves escaping bondage would come to use the nearby water channel to get to Terre Haute.

Also interestingly, Merom played a small role in the War of 1812.

Nowadays, it’s a lot quieter around Merom, but that’s all right.

The event first began over a century ago, was seemingly forgotten after the 1920s, and came roaring back to life in the 1960s.
