Just because it’s winter doesn’t mean we have to tuck ourselves away until the snow melts. This season is full of activities, events, and places to visit that are just not the same in the summertime. One favorite activity is spending time outdoors. Though it’s cold, many Minnesota nature areas are astonishingly beautiful in the winter. Next time you’re looking for a gorgeous place to visit under a blanket of snow, try a winter walk through Tettegouche State Park. Do not miss out on seeing the park’s 70-foot waterfall frozen solid for the season. Here’s what you need to know:

Tettegouche State Park is a beautiful, 9,000-acre state park on Minnesota’s North Shore. It’s about 60 miles north of Duluth on Highway 61.

The park is known for its beautiful views of Lake Superior. Even in winter, people flock to the park to see the snow-covered, icy views of formations like Shovel Point and Palisade Head.

There are many other parts of the park to explore as well. There are many hiking, cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing trails that take you all over the park.

The sight of the trees blanketed with snow is absolutely breathtaking. You will love the time you spend in the silent forest sparkling with snow.

Eventually, your hike may take you to the park’s most famous icon: the High fall of the Baptism River. This 70-foot waterfall is an unyielding mass of turbulent, rushing water in the warmer months.

But come winter, it often freezes solid. The flow of the rapid Baptism River completely stops. The sight of the silent, still waterfall must be seen to be believed. It’s absolutely incredible!
