You might know of some local tall places in Kansas, but have you heard about the tallest bit of natural land here? If you’ve always wanted to visit Kansas’s highest point, you’ll find it out here in western Kansas, ready to visit. Road trip, anyone? Mark this down for your bucket list.

Way out in the wide open skies and endless horizon of western Kansas, you’ll find the highest point in the whole state. Can you see it from here?

Here it is! Though we call it Mount Sunflower, we know good and well that it isn’t much more than a molehill. Our state is mostly flat as a whole, but sloped in a way that this point near Colorado is our highest bit of land.

We’ve made this point into a travel destination, a spot to mark off of your bucket list when going west. It sits 4,039 feet, quite high for Kansas!

Here at the spot, you’ll find a guest book, a picnic table, a Little Free Library, and plenty of sculpted metal sunflowers.

It’s especially beautiful in the winter or during a stormy day, but make sure you are using a four wheel drive vehicle if you want to brave the weather. These roads aren’t the best, after all.

Mount Sunflower is on private land owned by Ed and Cindy Harold, who encourage well meaning visitors anytime. Just respect the marker, and have a good time!

You could never tell that this was the highest point in the state without this marker. Even so, we’d like to think it’s one of our best tourist stops.
