There are several stone formations in the park that are used for this popular activity. In fact, because they’re between 600 million to 1.3 billion years old, they’re believed to be some of the world’s oldest naturally exposed stones.

If you’re unfamiliar with bouldering, no worries! It’s similar to rock climbing, except it doesn’t require a rope and harness. Instead, bouldering requires a crash pad.

Horse Pens 40 is open year-round and has both day use and primitive camping fees. The day use fee ($8.00 per day) will cover you from 8 a.m. until sundown, and the primitive camping fee ($15.00 per night) will cover you from sundown the day you arrive until sundown the following day. The rates are per person. Children under 10 years old are free when accompanied by a paying parent or legal guardian.

Keep in mind, there’s no separate fee for bouldering. It’s included in the fee you pay to visit the park.
