Nothing says adventure like the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. These jagged mountain peaks are some of the most iconic in the world, and climbing them proves to be an adventure. While not everyone is equipped to climb these high-altitude peaks, some of the treks are more approachable than others. In fact, the tallest U.S. Rocky Mountain, known as Mount Elbert, is easier than some of the other famous peaks in the Rocky Mountain State.

Standing at 14,439 feet, Mount Elbert is the tallest mountain in Colorado, and among the second highest peak in the continental U.S. It’s located in the Sawatch Range of the Rocky Mountains.

While the idea of climbing to the highest peak in Colorado may sound daunting, it’s actually more approachable that you might think. There are five distinct routes that will take you to the top, each with their own unique challenges and advantages.

The Northeast Ridge is the route that most take, considering it isn’t technically difficult or too challenging for those in proper hiking shape. Plus, as you can see, the view from the top is positively incredible.
