Spending a day at a Nebraska state park or recreation area is always fun, but there’s a new adventure at eastern Nebraska’s Venture Parks that will make you want to jump in the car and head there immediately. The Venture Park Region consists of Eugene T. Mahoney State Park, Platte River State Park, Schramm Park State Recreation Area, and Louisville State Recreation Area; these four destinations have received huge upgrades and improvements over the past several years to make them even more appealing to visitors.

In addition to the many other activities and attractions offered by the eastern Nebraska Venture Parks, there’s now a special geocaching adventure that spans all four parks.

Traditional geocaching involves using clues and GPS coordinates to find a physical cache, typically consisting of a small box containing a logbook for visitors to record their names. Some caches also contain a little trinket or prize, and whoever finds it leaves a new object in its place.

But the Venture Park Geocaching Adventure is different. It will lead you to hidden treasures, but they’re the kinds of treasures that you take with you in your memories.

The adventure will take you across all four of the Venture Parks and can be completed in a single day, even when you factor in time for splashing, running, and playing. If you want to give yourself extra time for fishing, boating, and other outdoor activities, you can book an overnight stay at Louisville, Platte River or Mahoney.

The adventure geocache involves light to moderate walking over sometimes uneven terrain. Learn more and get the Adventure Lab mobile app at this link. Remember that you will need a daily or annual park permit to enter any of the parks; you can purchase a pass online before you go or at the park office when you arrive.
