New England is an area of the United States that’s basically crawling with paranormal activity — even in the cozy, charming ski town of Stowe, Vermont.
In fact, one of the most haunted places in Vermont is rumored to be Green Mountain Inn, a structure that was originally built all the way back in 1833. The hotel is certainly beautiful, warm, and inviting — but it’s also allegedly pretty spooky! While the Green Mountain Inn plays host to hundreds of visitors all year-round, it also apparently is a permanent home for a visitor from the other side.
The Green Mountain Inn is an ideal spot to stay if you’re exploring the hiking, skiing, camping, and small town activities Stowe has to offer. It’s also the ideal spot if you want to meet a ghost during your Vermont adventure.

Boots Berry is the name of the cheerful, drunk ghost that roams Green Mountain Inn. Legend has it he was the son of hotel employees.

In fact, it’s said he was born in Room 302! (In case you’re looking to see his first home). Boots grew up to be a horseman at the Inn and even saved stagecoach passengers from a charging horse.

Boots became a hero – but he also had a drinking problem. He was fired from the Inn, ended up in a New Orleans prison, learned to tap dance, and eventually made it back to Stowe. Unfortunately, Stowe would be where he died: He slipped and fell off the roof during a snowstorm.

Now, visitors swear they can regularly hear him, still tap dancing and hanging out the roof.

And if you’re really lucky — or maybe unlucky — you might spot the ghost of Boots Berry wandering the property.
