Welcome to a tiny section of Kansas called Hamilton County State Park, home to Hamilton State Fishing Lake and surrounding wildlife area.

Although there are only a couple of hundred acres here, the lake bed, riparian timber, and shortgrass prairie more than make up for the size with their beauty.

If you’re looking for a quiet area where you can camp and explore, this might just be the winner. It’s quite the underrated spot, as long as you’re not picky.

All sorts of wildlife both large and small call this area home, so keep an eye out for things underfoot during your stay.

You might also try your luck with fishing, although the offerings are somewhat modest. The lake has been relatively dry lately, so it’s not too easy to catch something. There isn’t much rain in the area, so stocking happens when it happens.

However, to make up for the lack of fishing here, you can also hunt. There are deer, pheasant, rabbit, and more. Don’t bug the beavers, though!
