After the dreaded dog days of summer each year, most South Carolinians probably look forward to a chill in the air during our short winters. But even winter can seem to be long and arduous in the Palmetto State – especially if, heaven forbid, we are still dealing with the pandemic in early 2021.
If you’re among those that prefer to see some cold weather (and even some snow) during winter, then the recent predictions from the Old Farmer’s Almanac for winter 2020-21 may make you less than happy. Instead of gloomy, gray days this winter…

It may all seem like a guessing game since winter is so far away. However, the Old Farmer’s Almanac employs the science of three methods to predict upcoming seasonal weather trends.

They are: solar science (studying sun spots), climatology (studying weather patterns that have and are currently prevailing), and meteorology (analyzing what’s going on in the atmosphere).

Even snow lovers will admit that it will be nice to have a winter where shorts and short sleeves may be an option. Or, at the very least, instead of being cooped up in the house during the possibility of the pandemic extending into the winter months, the prettier weather will mean getting outside for an adventure is very likely, even in January and February.

The ‘snow train’ just above the U.S. border is where the snow will prevail on the east coast. Of course, some of that snow will extend downward into the Northeastern U.S.
