Or, you could mix of all of those things by taking this scenic hike straight to the beach! The coast is a beaut no matter how you get there, but meandering down a path might be the best.
The Wells Reserve at Laudholm and the Wells National Estuarine Research Reserve are sometimes overlooked, but visiting provides the opportunity to see some of the most beautiful scenery in Maine.

Our favorite and the one leading straight to the beach is the Barrier Beach Trail.

You’ll start at the Knight Trail which provides views over grassy areas with Mount Agamenticus in the distance.

Along the way you’ll find yourself in an aspen grove and an abandoned apple orchard. There’s tons of wildlife to see here too, making the journey as much about exploration as it is about getting to the beach.
