Neapolitan pizza, also known as Naples style pizza, is not easy to find outside of Italy — at least, if you want the flavor to be of the same quality. But not only do we have a place right here in Rhode Island we can visit when such a craving strikes, but it happens to be a family-owned eatery many of us know and love. Figidini is one of the Ocean State’s finest gems, and the food is outstanding.

Figidini is co-owned by Frankie and Kara Cecchinelli, and the story of how this place came to be is pretty special.
figidini / Facebook Over 30 years ago, Frankie’s parents, Franca and Joe, opened a restaurant called Franca’s. Their restaurant was one of the first commercial wood burning oven restaurants in Massachusetts, and it was wildly successful.
Eventually, Franca’s opened a second location in Cape Cod, which is where Frankie grew up learning the skill of wood fire cooking.

Figidini opened in 2013 as the only restaurant in Rhode Island that solely uses a wood fired oven for cooking.

To be considered an authentic Neapolitan pizza, it must be made with either San Marzano tomatoes or Pomodorino del Piennolo del Vesuvio and buffalo mozzarella.
